1993 Ford Mustang A/C Compressor Blows Freon Out

Reader Question Hello, I have a 1993 Ford Mustang that I have converted to 134A I put a new drier and a new AC compressor no the car. The problem is I fill the system and use gages to check my PSI and everything looks good, I turn off the car and let it sit for a day and then I start it and turn on the AC and my Freon blows out the PSI valve on the compressor. I did vac the system down before I filled it. What should I do? I have been told my condenser is plugged? Any help would be a great help,
Thanks Jeff

Hi there Jeff,

I have not seen that first hand, so I do not have any personal experience with it. If the pressures are truly correct, then you don’t seem to have a restriction anywhere, or you would see it in the pressures. Did you replace the orifice tube? Maybe you should take a look at it and see if it is stopped up with debris, the orifice will clog before the condenser will. They are cheap, so it might be worth the effort to suck the system down and replace it

But again, you should see this in the pressures on the gauges. To me, it sounds like an intermittent compressor problem, but that is strictly a guess. I would get another one before I did anything major to the system.

Blessings,

Austin C. Davis

  1. Syed says:

If your condenser fan is not coming on it will not cool down the freon back to liquid state. Pressure will build up in the system. Eventually once enough pressure is built up it will be released through the compressor release valve. Check to see if fan is coming on with a/c .
