Should I change the ATF of my 4 cyl. Toyota Camry 1998? I bought it with all 100k miles, but I don’t know if at anytime the ATF was changed, I’ve checked and some people says that if the ATF is dark and smell like a barbecue the transmission is almost dead, but the ATF in my car is like transparent and it smells just like oil.
I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4×4. Recently a “clicking” noise has been coming from the transfer case/transmission area. I wasn’t sure what that exactly meant, however bad turned to worse. Two days ago my truck lost the ability to engage in reverse.
I have a 2003 Olds Alero. Lately it has been hard to get the automatic transmission out of park. If I get out and rock the car just a little, then I can move the selector to reverse or drive.
2000 Kia Sportage 4dr, 5spd manual, 4 wheel drive. 187,000 almost totally trouble free miles – well not quite. Replaced entire front end 2nd winter on warranty due to faulty design of hub seal (only 1 lip) allowed water in and they rusted out. At about 100k replaced a front hub leaking vacuum. At about 160k replaced altenator, battery and front drive shaft u joint. Thats it. Oh, just put on a tail pipe, rest of exhaust system is still original. The problem first became evident 4 summers ago. It has become gradually worse. It happens ONLY when the engine idles for 5 – 15 minutes (varies) and happens more quickly when it is hot outside, i.e. summer and when the ac is running which obviously puts more heat into the engine compartment.
I have a few questions to ask you. First, I have a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder VE-V6 engine with approximately 186,000 miles. I have never had my transmission serviced. One mechanic suggested that I do not bother the transmission now since I’ve never had it serviced before. He suggested this because of the number of miles. It it not giving me any trouble. What do you suggest I do? What is necessary to maintain an automatic transmission?
I have a 2005 VW Golf – 12,000 miles. Twice in the last month the car jerked very hard when the transmission attempted to go into the next gear. It will jerk “hard” twice in a row and then be fine for a few more weeks.I took it to the VW dealer and they claim they couldn’t find anything wrong. They took it for a ride and the problem didn’t occur! Not surprising since it is a sporadic problem at this point. I have a gut feeling that this is just the start of the transmission going bad. It’s alarming when it happens because it is so noticeable and I can’t prepare myself for the sudden “jolt”. Would you please email me with your thoughts?
Hi I got a 1999 Ford Windstar 3.0L I’m having some problems when the engine gets hot,a soon as the temperture gage gets to the midle the engine runs very poor and tranny dosent wanna shift into 3 0r O.D or down or upshift like crazy (engine dosent overheat at all),before getting the needle temp. gage to the middle,everything its perfect,please could u help me, Thanks,Larry
My dad has a 2000 Buick Century with an intermitent problem. Sometimes when he is driving the transmission feels like it is shifting into other gears and he hears a whining sound from the front end.He is forced to shut it down for at least five minutes. After he “rests” the car, it is fine and he can go on his way. This has been going on for a few years. It might happen twice in a day and then doesn’t happen again for two months. The transmission shop didn’t come up with any solutions except the idea of overhauling it to look for solutions. Do you have ideas what this could be? Obviously this can be a dangerous thing esp when he is driving on highways.
