1998 Chevy S -10 Won’t Start Sometimes – Engine Turns Over

I have a 1998 Chevy S-10. It’s has a 4 cyl 2.2 ltr. engine in it. The transmission is automatic and was rebuilt last summer. It has approximately 95,000 miles on the odometer. It has never been used for towing anything (just so you know as much as I can think to tell you.) Four weeks ago I got in my truck and cranked it and my security light came on (it has a fuel cut-off security feature) and didn’t go off. I turned the truck off and tried to restart it. Nothing happened. I didn’t even have power to anything. No radio, no headlights, no interior lights. Nothing. I called my dad to come and help me out and he checked all the fuses and the battery and found nothing wrong. He lost a fuse and went to get a new one and while he was gone everything came back on. So I tried to crank the truck and everything died again. A few minutes after my dad came back it all came on again and I was able to crank the truck and drive home. My dad thought that maybe there was a short in my battery or something. So he said if it happened again we would swap my battery (it’s only a year old and was still under warranty). I had no trouble with it for two weeks. Everything was great. Then two days before I was supposed to leave on vacation, I was pulling into my driveway and my truck cut off. I still had power to everything, but I couldn’t get it to crank. We are at a loss. We replaced the battery. I’m getting fire to the plugs and the fuel pump is working but it won’t crank. It’s like it’s flooding out when we try to crank it. Various people have suggested the following: timing chain, cold air sensor, mass airflow sensor, distributor coil and fuel pressure regulator. How do I check these things, though? I really don’t want to have to pay $150 towing fee to move it somewhere else if I don’t have to. We want to try to find the problem and fix it ourselves.

Old Ford Truck Runs Then Dies and Won’t Restart Until It Cools Down

I am having trouble with my 1985 Ford F-250. It will run then quit. when it cools it will start up again. There seems to be an engine module on the fender wall and possibly an ignition module on the distributor. How can a shade tree mechanic test figure out the solution.

My Motorhome Lost Power and The Fan Belt Made A Loud Noise

I have a friend that has a motorhome and it recently had to be towed to its destination. My question was, if something that is run by the serpentine belt seizes could this cause enough drag to take most of the power from the engine? She said that she was going up a hill then she lost power and steering, then she started to smell burning rubber.

1993 Chevy Truck Belt Noise and Rough Idle

I have a 1993 Chevrolet C-1500 Work truck (175,000 miles). What is going on is I was coming home, and the engine started sputtering, and wanting to stall (after heavy rains), and the belts were squealing. I had to park the truck. Now, when I idle at around 3500 RPM, it sounds like a machine gun in the right head; however, when I drive it at 35 mph or less, it’s fine. We recently went to ethanol here, and I have had three mechanics tell me that it is a simple plug and wire fix; however, one has told me I need a new engine. I am newly stationed in the Norfolk, VA area with the Marines, and I don’t know any mechanics here, so I don’t know who to trust! There is no loss of oil, I have new high mileage synthetic in the engine. The radiator is empty (but I have had a slow leak for a year, and it goes empty a couple times a year).

Black Exhaust Smoke Out Tailpipe of My Car

I have recently bought an older second hand car (1992 model 2.6L, 4 Cycl Pertol) and I’ve noticed in the mornings or whenever the engine is cold and I first start and warm it up, that small splatters of oil and water comes out of the exhaust pipe. The exahust does not produce any smoke at any time, but I’d like to know whats wrong because its slowly staining my driveway.

Cheve Lumina High Engine RPM and Stalling

Chevy Lumina check engine light is on and the engine will sometimes stall when I am at a red light and be hard to restart again. My transmission is also leaking, could any of this be related?

Toyota Corolla Idles Very High – Sometimes

Our car automatic Toyota Corola 1999 was parked near the shop by my wife. When she started the car afterwards – it gave very high revs. She did not re-start it and switched to reverse. The car JUMPED backwards and hit another parked car.

My Volvo Station Wagon Just Dies While I am Driving – Fuel Pump is New

I was driving my 1994 Volvo stationwagon at about 35
mph and it just stopped. The check engine light came
on first and then all other lights. after about 5
attempts to restart and then a push, it was able to
start back up. I took it to my mechanic and he
changed the fuel pump relay. I drove it home and
after a couple days it happened again. I took it back
and then he replaced the fuel pump and i got charged
$860.00 for the whole job.

Engine Won’t Start Sometimes – Dies While Driving

I have a 1998 oldsmobile Silhouette mini van.when the van did not start,we had it towed to our mechanic & he replaced the fuel pump with a GM pump.With in one week we had same problem,van would not start.He sais computer showed bad fuel senser,he replaced.A few days later same problem,replaced fuel pump again (no charge)A few days later same problem,said that the wiring harness was loose. next day same problem.
