I have a problem of overheating in my 1995 Ford Mercury Mystique. The temperature stays just below the middle mark while running and after driving for a bit when I need to stop at a signal or a turn I can hear the ac fan switch on however if I have to go slow in nose to nose traffic the temp rises and I have to switch off the ac but the temp does not come down. Aditionally if I have a straight drive for around 15 miles without any stops and have to return back home then when I reach home and switch off the car the water in the reservoir starts overflowing. I have got my mechanic to clean the radiator and he says the water pump too seems to be working, his suggestion now is to put a swithc so that both fans work continuously and if this does not work the engine gasket will have to be changed as that is why the water is backing/boiling up into the reservoir. I do not have any problem if I drive around 10 miles with the ac on minimum.
About two weeks ago, I took my well-running vehicle in for it’s 90k service at a shop near my office, which cost a few hundred dollars. Four days later, my wife is driving the car and out of nowhere the “check gages” light comes on and the temp gage is heading up fast. She pulls over to let it cool. Luckily she is very near to an auto shop run by a friend. After waiting a while to cool it down, she tries to get the rest of the way there but it stalls out within pushing distance of the shop.
I was checking out the article on How Do I Flush My Radiator and I’ll tell you why – since you asked! I recently purchased a 1996 Geo Metro so I could afford to go somewhere besides back and forth to work! We had a recent spell of very hot weather here – as did the entire nation – and my engine got a little hot one day so I decided to check and see if there was enough coolant. I can’t even see the coolant in the reservoir because there is so much gunk attached to the inside of it! It’s slimy gray gunk and I want it out of there. I’m no mechanic but I’m assuming that if it’s in the reservoir, it must be all through the system. So, do you think flushing it will clean that out?
MY CAR (97 SATURN SL1, 230K MI) OVERHEATED A LITTLE WHILE I WAS IN THE FREEWAY. I NOTICED THAT THE GAUGE WOULD STAY JUST OVER THE NORMAL TEMPERATURE AND WOULD NOT COOL DOWN. I STOPPED AND AFTER IT WAS COOL ENOUGH, I CHECKED FOR ANY COOLANT LEAK. THERE WAS NONE AND WHEN I OPPENED THE COOLANT RESERVOIR, THERE WAS A LOT OF OIL IN THERE. I FIGURE IT WAS A BLOWN HEAD GASKET.
I have a problem my engine is overheating I check the fluids they are ok no leaks but my fuses for my radiator fans are blown I change them and they keep blowing I am stuck can you help me on this?

My 1993 Mercury Tracer overheated. After allowing it to cool down, I started the car and went home. The following morning my car wouldn’t start. However, after trying to start it I could hear a bubbling noise under the hood. When I checked this, I found the noise coming from the radiator reservoir. I called and explained this to my mechanic, who tells me the head gasket is blown. So, I accessed your site and found where “Melissa with the 1988 Ford Bronco II” wrote to you. You suggested that she start her vehicle and let it run and to look for coolant shooting from the radiator neck.
Thermostat went out on my 1991 bronco about a year ago. It was literally falling apart when i got to it. Changed it and the temp has been fine since. The coolant was badly corroded though. Since changing the thermostat I have had to add coolant at the rate of about a gallon a month but temp is never a problem. I do have smoke but it is grayish, not really white.
1997 VW Golf my water pump needs replacing as per the VW dealership. I replaced the pump and the timing belt 3 years ago, should I need a new one already?
