I have a questions about my 2000 Chevy Cavalier. My coolant is leaking (takes about 2 months before the coolant light comes on). So far I have had the hoses replaced (mechanic 1) and a new thermostat put in (mechanic 2). The most recent mechanic (3) said that it could be a head gasket but he wasn’t positive, it was a guess.
My car has been stuttering a lot when I drive it. It’s a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix Se, and it’s leaking oil, I’ve already gone through a gallon of oil in the past 2 days. When I look under the car, its soaked in oil and I can see it dripping out.

I’ve had this question for years about how the engine oil system works. I’ve consistently changed my engine oil every 5,500 to 6,500 miles. I go to a commercial oil change shop where they change both the oil and filter each time.
The question is; why does my engine go through about a quart of oil between 3,000 to 4,000 miles from the last oil change?
