I suggest the same thing for getting auto loan quotes as I do for insurance..get multiple quotes then take the lowest rate quote and make a few phone calls to your bank or credit union and see if they can beat the rate you got online.

I have a Honda Accord and I want to know what I should torque the crank shaft bolt to. I was looking at the Alldata site you mentioned on yours, and I am not against spending the $24 a year to own it, but will it really be beneficial to me in the long run? I know how to do most repairs myself, but I don’t have any wiring diagrams or spec data…and I usually just guess at that stuff, but if I get the crank shaft wrong it could cost me my engine.
There has to be a free online auto repair manual somewhere on the Internet, where is it? You can find ANYTHING for free on the internet if you really look hard for it, but if you are looking for a professional repair manual like Alldata, Chilton, Haynes or Motor for free…forget it, if you do find one like from a Peer to Peer network like Kazaa.com, it will be ILLEGAL if you download it. If you find one of those, someone has electronically copied the material from the manual and put it on their computer…which is stealing.

Reader Question :You mention Alldata a lot as your favorite auto repair manual, and you seem to give good reasons why you like it so much, but I was curious as to what the wiring diagrams looked like compared to the other repair manuals like Haynes or Chilton.
I filled gas in my car last Monday and on Tuesday evening on my way home, my check engine light came on. I ran the car for 4 days after that and it is still on. Everything is working fine, the engine sounds good too. It is a 1998 Subaru Forrester stick shift with about 103000 miles on it. I spoke to the dealers and they said that maybe I might have not tightened the fuel tank cap properly and so the light came on but what worries me is that the light is not going off. I drive it for about 12 to 15 miles a day or 20 miles max a day.
About 6 months ago I went to Jiffylube for a routine oil change. This was my 1st experience with Jiffy. They said I should really put synthetic and I said ok. As soon as they finished it, when I started driving it, the engine started stopping almost every time I stop in a signal or put it in neutral. I took it back to them and the guy there swore their work had nothing to do with it. They said they’ll do the oil change free a second time just in case and they did it. I don’t know what all they did because in that shop they don’t let customers watch the work. Anyway, this time, the car didn’t stop in every signal but less ofter.
