1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse – Is Engine Swap Possible?

Reader Question: I am currently replacing a connecting rod in my 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. It is a 2.0L DOHC engine.

I am wondering if it is possible to replace the engine with a newer model (2003 or so) 2.4L engine without much customizing of the car.

Howdy Dave,

I would call your local junk yard and ask them if they have a Hollander Guide Book that will tell them which parts are interchangeable

If they know you are interested in buying an engine from them, they will do a little look up legwork for you free over the phone.

I would bet that all good junk yards have that service available to them and can tell you for sure.
