1998 Buick Regal – Hood Latch Broken Can’t Open Hood

Reader Question: The cable on our 1978 Buick Regal car’s hood latch snapped and we cannot open the hood. I was wondering if there is a certain trick to get the hood open or if there is anything that we can do?

Hey Tina,

The best thing to do is buy a new hood release cable from the dealership and visit your local body shop to have them install it.

The body shop guys have the tools and the experience in doing things like this. You might be able to reach under the vehicle up near the radiator with a long pair of pliers to pull on the cable to get the hood open but it will not be easy.
