1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS

Reader Question: Hi! Austin,

I have a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS. I have a problem with the right side front signal light not blinking. When I put the turn signal on for the right side, the indicator light stays on and does not blink.

If I put the emergency flashers on, all of the bulbs flash. The left side works with no problem. I tried a different flasher unit in the Fusebox with the same results. There is a separate ground wire from the signal light to the inside of the fender, which I cleaned and re-connected.

I also checked the ground wire from the battery cable to the fender to make sure it was making a good connection. Previously, the right side bulb would not come on at all. I had to replace the socket for the turn signal bulb because I could not get the bulb to sit properly in the socket. After that, it worked fine.

I was working on some un-related items on the car for about a month and when I got it back together to test drive it, I noticed the signal light not working.

Could the turn signal lever in the steering column have stopped working and need to be replaced?

Hey Gary,

I would test to see if you have power to the socket itself with a voltmeter. If you don’t have power, check the socket for rust or a bad connection, then follow the wire back as far as you can to make sure the wire is in good shape and not cut or broken.

Something this old I would assume you have a socket connection issue, broken wire, or loose ground at the socket. If you do have power to the socket, you might want to install a new bulb too, just to rule out the possibility of a defect bulb.

Also, check the power and socket connections at the rear turn signal as well, since you could have a ground issue back there that is affecting the rest of the system.

You could have a problem with the turn signal switch if you do not have power to the socket and you have ruled out everything else. Probably, you can still buy that turn signal switch at your local auto parts store.
