2003 Chevy Truck Speedometer Jumps Around

Reader Question I have a 2003 Chevy. 3/4 ton Crew cab with V8 350 engine. The speedometer is erratic (it is not bouncing around). Sometimes it reads slower then I’m going and sometimes it reads faster. What is wrong? Thank You for any help you can give.

I would probably look at the VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor first, which should be on the back end of the transmission. If things check out there I would look at the speedometer head itself, which is the actual dash piece. If the VSS and the connections to the speedometer head are ok…….I would point you to a speedometer repair shop for further testing.
