1994 Chrysler LHS Engine Cuts out While I am Driving – Starts up ok
Reader Question i have a 1994 Chrysler LHS that cuts out on me continuously while driving. i can put it in neutral and crank the starter till it starts and then maybe a mile maybe less it does it again.
due to all the cranking of the ignition i burned the starter up and had to have it towed home. do you have any idea what might be causing the engine to die and why it wont stay running while in drive ? What is a faulty crankshaft position sensor and could this be contributing to my problem?
Hi there
I would definitely take a guess and replace the crankshaft position sensor….when it fails it will produce symptoms like you describe. Its fairly cheap and easy to install yourself.
I would buy a genuine Chrysler one and get the parts department guys to make you a print out of the location of the sensor and how to change it….they should do that if you buy the part from them.
If that does not work…I would start looking at the fuel pump, and would check the fuel pressure with a manual screw on gauge that you can rent from your local auto parts store. The fuel pump would be an expensive guess…..a good guess, but not as cheap and easy as the sensor.
